Key West Shrimp House Incorporated in Madison

I got quick, polite, service as I arrived at 6.As tables filled up my waitress got faster and beads of perspiration formed.Meal came out on a Hot dinner plate. All was delicious. The shrimp a little over done but nothing went to waste.

To be fair, we were warned about the service but still opted to give it a try. The restaurant sits on a hill with views of the Ohio River and that’s really the best thing it has going for it. The facilities are very dated and feel a little sticky. With scant options, the salad bar isn’t worth mentioning. The service was friendly, but it took almost an hour and a half to get our order. Although my wife likes her steak burnt, I don’t like my Shrimp Scampi over cooked. It was obvious my dish sat under a heat lamp for a long period of time and what took an hour and a thirty minutes the first time took less than 10 minutes to re-fire. It’s hard to mess up Shrimp Scampi (you know broiled in butter), but they did. It was terrible! We stopped at a gas station on the way back to our hotel and I got food in a bag that was better than this place.

We enjoyed a nice meal here today. Service and food quality we're very good with one exception; the seafood chowder was thick and gloppy and the shrimp in the chowder were almost indistinguishable from lumps of potato. Everything else was just right.When my wife mentioned that she found the chowder below expectation, the server offered to substitute another dish or remove the chowder from the bill.The seafood platter provided a very generous amount of food for a modest price. As always, the salad bar was better than most at other comperable venues.

Food is great! Everything on the salad bar was fresh; how many places do you find pickled watermelon? Needless to say that we all had shrimp... shrimp Panama, orange spicy shrimp, coconut shrimp. The hush puppies are scrumptious. Save room for dessert. They make several things there. Bread pudding with bourbon sauce and the key lime pie were our favorites. Did I mention that we sat overlooking the river? Or how friendly the staff is? Or that couples, young and old, various size groups and families were there? Stop in and try the Key West Shrimp House, you won't regret it.

I had the chef's special, the shrimp Panama was bacon wrapped shrimp in a tomato sauce so it just kind of tasted like bbq. The french fried shrimp was amazing, the shrimp were huge and crispy. The building itself was quaint, wide plank wooden floor, exposed brick and rafters. Key West Shrimp house will be a Madison tradition for me from now on!

I'm sorry to give this place a COVID 19 rating. We settled in to Madison Indiana at the wonderful Riverboat Inn. For an hour and a half we called them to place a takeout order, but kept getting a message that they were too busy. We finally decided to walk over there and stood for 25 minutes outside waiting just to get in. We talked to someone who had put in an order to go and she had been waiting 35. The meals that we wanted to order were going to cost a total (with tax), for two of us, close, to $90 without alcohol. If I owned that business and sold food for that much I would have people on the phone taking calls.

Three stars is for the food except the hush puppies because they were MUSH puppies! Yuk! They were so doughy it dripped of mush. But the rest of the food was great! We, however, were very disappointed with our waitress. She was rushing us as soon as we sat at the table. We asked for extra ranch when we ordered our salad. We did not get it. When we complained about our hush puppies she said "They probably needed to set for awhile so they will set up" HUH??? She also said she would get us 2 more. Never seen them either! Not sure what's going on with the No Alcohol served but if we had some drinks maybe it would of helped us through the attitude of the waitress. Sorry to say we won't be back untill it gets better! I will be looking at the reviews to see if things change. I hope it does because that was our number one place to go to when we come to Madison! Not now! So sad!

First we waited along time outside. Then when we got seated the view of the river was nice. Unfortunately, the food was extremely bland and the oysters had a weird taste. Secondly, the bathrooms need a major update. Diffently, not a place for babies no changing table so I had to change him on the sink (I had no other choice. We won't ever go back! I would have given this place a one but the view was nice.

The staff was so pleasant and friendly and great atmosphere as well. The Blackened MahiMahi is absolutely Amazing!! I will definitely go back again soon!

Very clean pleasant atmosphere. Great food. Our waitress Diane was very nice and kept our glasses filled. Definitely worth the time and money.

Absolutely the best food and Service we have had! Definitely come hungry and money well spent. The Seafood Chowder was so yummy as were the crabcakes. Highly recommend

Unique building with great people to welcome you. The food was fantastic. My wife and I both had the salmon, the twice baked potatoes, and salad bar. The salmon was delicious and it melted in your mouth. Our server was always there to ensure our drinks were filled. We will return the next time we visit Madison.

Great shrimp and catfish! Service was good too. We visit Madison often and we have lunch or dinner here whenever we can.😁

Excellent service and food. Steak was high quality and cooked perfectly. No beer but the waitress was good about keeping the drinks from going empty.

The food was delicious, coconut shrimp for me and seafood fettuccine for Tom. Will definitely make this day trip another time.

Hidden gem and well worth the drive. Big portions of deliciousness for a great price. Do yourself a favor and order the seafood chowder. The Stuffed Cod Monterrey was AMAZING!!! Didn't even have room for dessert. Secret-don't skip the hush puppies. Special recipe makes these one of a kind.

Stuffed Cod was way to salty and in edible. The seafood platter is just blah everything fried in the same gross tasting batter no flavor difference at all. The onion soup is not normal its a tomato based soup like yoy make a vegetable soup. Prices are outrageous for sub par food. On a positive note salad bar was good and our waitress was very good. Would i go back unfortunately no!

Very relaxing atmosphere and location. The menu has plenty of selections to satisfy your taste and reasonably priced. Plenty of parking is available on a hardtop lot with handicap. We came out for lunch and enjoyed the food and waitress was excellent.

Was good food. Stuffed cod is really good. Had let liquor license lapse or something and couldn't serve alcohol. So that was a little odd to stare at the full bar that they couldn't serve. Service was really good as well. Would have given 4.5 if I could, just knocking the liquor license issue. Hope they can get that fixed soon. Food came quickly and they were moderately busy.

Terrible and disappointing experience. Service was lacking and the food was not edible. There was so much wrong, I don't even want to write a review. The locals raved about the restaurant, but it has to be awful for none of my family to eat their meals. One of the worst meals of my life. . Just yuck...cold!

Tried calling several times to place a to-go food order from their parkinglot only to reach an answering service. By the 4th call a woman answered and said they were too busy to do an order. I've waited for months for this establishment to re-open....definitely a let-down.

Absolutely the worse food we have ever tried to eat. I ordered coconut shrimp. Tasteless! My husband ordered the seafood platter. He said it all tasted the same. Like old fryer grease. The bread basket is white bread with cooking oil on it then ran through a broiler. And the salad bar was no better. Won’t ever go there again.

Terrific seafood. Best coconut shrimp ever!!! Their other menu items are really good as well. Really good salad bar. The only place I have found pickled water melon rind. Don't knock it until you try it.

Key West was very accommodating to our ladies church group. The place we had originally scheduled "forgot" about us. Key West got us in, all almost 30 of us. The service was excellent and the food perfectly delicious. It was also decorated for Christmas and the fire made it all extra cozy. Thanks Key West !

We order carryout on sat night. Coconut shrimp was overcooked with no taste. twice baked was ok. Salad was ok. No butter no cocktail for shrimp ...just feel waste of $$$

AMAZING PLACE!!! Great food. Great service. Food was hot. Hushpuppies were out of this world. Swear it was a cake. Had orange glazed shrimp. AMAZING. Wife had beachcomber. AMAZING.

These reviews are all over the place so I'm not sure what to think except that this restaurant just isn't consistent. I thought the service was slow, the food was mediocre and overpriced. They have to keep blackout curtains up in the late evening on the West side, so while we were at a window, there was no view to enjoy. Decor is stereotypical nautical with boat paintings, anchors, and statues of white bearded captains. Oh and while the employees were wearing masks, most of them were wearing them incorrectly under their nose or pulling them all the way down at the tables.

Great food reasonable prices. Servers were great as well.

Extremely high priced for what you get. I’m usually the type who finishes all my food 99% of the time but this place I barely ate anything. The best part of this place is the hospitality.

The service was great, but that is the best I can say. Twice backed potato was cold and the salmon and shrimp were both overcooked. Service was slow because of only having 2 waitresses. Hopefully they will improve.

This was the worst place I’ve ate in my life. It’s outrageously expensive. Very small portions. Poor flavor.

The shrimp sauce should be served as drink unto itself. The desserts will put 10 lbs on you simply by looking at them.

This place won’t last unless some changes are made. You never know if they’re open or not, they’ll randomly close without notice or warning (once because they’re out Of food), you try to call and no one answers. Three times now the website said they were open, we called and their answering machine said “were either closed or busy” so we drove 45 minutes to find a sign on the door that they decided to close early. The place is good but you can’t run a business like this.
